Discussion:
Licensing of Breeze icons

Hello,

There is some confusing stuff in the breeze-icons.git repository
regarding licensing. There is a COPYING.LIB file with the LGPLv2
license text, and a COPYING-ICONS file with the LGPLv3 license text
and clarifications of how it applies to icons.

I assume the icons are actually under the LGPLv3 (the KDE Licensing
Policy says "Icons in oxygen-icons and breeze must be licenced under
the LGPL 3 or later versions approved by KDE e.V."). If that's the
case, there are two problems:

- The presence of COPYING.LIB with the LGPLv2 in the repository is
useless and confusing, it could make someone think the icons are
licensed under LGPLv2.
- The text in COPYING-ICONS is insufficient, because the LGPLv3 is
worded as extra permissions on top of the GPLv3, and the repository is
missing the full text of the GPLv3.

If I'm understanding correctly that the actual license is LGPLv3, and
there are no objections, I will:
- Delete COPYING.LIB.
- Add the text of the GPLv3. Although I'm not sure if this should go
as COPYING, COPYING.GPL, or inside the same COPYING-ICONS file before
the LGPLv3...

Thanks for looking into this.

The LGPL2 file applies to some code in autotests/ so it shouldn't be discarded, maybe add a 1 line note at the top saying it applies to autotests/

I would adjust the first line of COPYING-ICONS to say it applies to all files in the repository unless otherwise stated and add the text of GPL 3 to the bottom of it.

Hi,

in the "old" working repository uri the origin maintainer started the
licence was GPL3 https://github.com/NitruxSA/breeze-icon-theme.

I don't care about licence as long as they are free to use. So Nicolas I
would be very happy when you can fix the confuse stuff there and we only
have GPL 3 for the icon licence.

thanks
